January, 2006 ~ Breaking HouseNews
Hello reader and writer friends. Happy 2006.
I've yet to get a HouseStories newsletter going since my site launch in Feb 03. But as I do happen to have some news now and have updated the site, here's a first one-two-three edition.
One. The film option for The Beginning of Calamities was just renewed. Yipee!
Two. Excerpts of my new novel Career Day are forthcoming in literary magazines. One by the same title appears imminently in the winter issue of Antioch Review. A second, called "The L & the C," comes out this May in the fifth issue of dazzling newcomer Ninth Letter. In the novel, a writer of "homoliterotica" is mistakenly invited to Career Day at his Catholic high school, and these two sections depict his outlandish classroom presentations. You can link up with either magazine from my publications page, or find them in many book stores and libraries.
Three. You'll find small changes abounding on the site, including new links to the texts of recent nonfiction pieces: a satirical "Reading Group Questions, or, Sorry We Asked!" for Calamities that appeared in New England Review last year, and a humorous essay on gay marriage, "It's Raining Gay Weddings and Dachshunds," that North American Review has just republished in its latest web issue. You'll also find a new links page at HouseStories; from there you can connect to the reading groups I facilitate, to a budding list of author and writing venues (wanna hookup?), and to the complete newsletter collection, which you've just finished.
All the best to you,
Tom
